Norman D Lock has worked as a teacher, a school principal and as a lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of Reading, UK. He currently works as a freelance consultant in Mathematics Education.

Norman created the 30 Second Challenge concept and writes these puzzles for the Daily Mail (London) and other regional papers in the UK as well as for the Melbourne Sunday Herald Sun and the Sydney Daily Telegraph.

Norman is a keen musician. He sings, plays trombone, conducts a small choir and attends many concerts and opera performances.
